Today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will meet with Northeastern chief ministers to discuss the implementation of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Before the meeting, Shah stayed overnight in Mizoram and visited an Assam Rifles event.
Shah is set to visit Kokrajhar today for the ABSU’s 57th annual conference, following which he will head to Guwahati for discussions with CMs from Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim. ABSU is a signatory to the Bodo Peace Accord from five years ago.
It’s uncertain how Manipur will be represented at the meeting due to the President’s rule following CM N Biren Singh’s resignation. Each state will provide a progress update on BNS implementation. Shah will conclude his Northeast trip tonight before heading to New Delhi.
