Air India reported that flight AI126 from Chicago to Delhi diverted back to Chicago due to most lavatories becoming unusable from items flushed in the toilets. Investigation found improper disposal of objects like polythene bags, rags, and clothes as the culprit. This led to the toilets being inoperable and necessitated the return to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
The Air India flight to Delhi on March 6 turned back after four and a half hours in the air, resulting in a 10-hour ordeal for passengers. With just one working toilet out of 12 for about 300 travelers on board AI126, conditions were challenging, as reported by View From The Wing.
Following the incident, Air India is offering impacted passengers full refunds and free rescheduling. “After landing in Chicago, all passengers and crew deplaned as usual and have been given accommodation to reduce disruption. The airline is working on new flight plans to transport the passengers to their destination,” stated an airline representative.
