A 46-year-old air hostess claimed she was sexually assaulted while on ventilator support in a Gurugram private hospital’s ICU. Her husband reported the crime to the police after she was discharged on April 13. A case has been filed at Sadar Police Station, and an investigation is ongoing.
The air hostess, in Gurugram for company training, stayed in a hotel. Her health deteriorated post-drowning, leading to hospitalization. Initially in a private hospital, she was moved by her husband to another Gurugram facility on April 5 for continued care.
The victim, still unconscious and unable to speak while on a ventilator on April 6, alleged in her complaint that some hospital staff sexually assaulted her. She mentioned two nurses being present during the incident. Upon being discharged, she informed her husband about the assault.
After the victim reported the incident, her husband notified the police, filed a complaint with their legal advisor present. A case was registered at Sadar Police Station, Gurugram, stated police spokesman Sandeep Kumar. A police team reviewed hospital duty logs and CCTV footage to identify suspects.
The hospital management declined to comment on the air hostess’ allegations, and the security personnel denied any knowledge of the situation. According to a 2024 report from the Times of India, sexual assault on patients is not rare in Indian hospitals but lacks thorough research.
