Adityanath didn't highlight the Kumbh stampede to prevent panic.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has broken his silence on the tragic Maha Kumbh stampede in Prayagraj, where 30 died and 60 were injured on January 29 during Mauni Amavasya, a key bathing day. Adityanath affirmed that his government swiftly managed the situation to prevent panic among the eight crore devotees.

Adityanath dismissed high fecal coliform reports at Sangam, stating that state pollution board and private labs confirmed safe water quality. He stressed efforts to prevent sewage entry into the Ganga, particularly at critical points like Kanpur’s Jajmau area.

Adityanath highlighted the improvements at Maha Kumbh events since 2019, stressing the importance of patience and resilience for dealing with such large-scale gatherings. This year’s Maha Kumbh attracted over 66 crore pilgrims, according to state government data, and is held every 12 years.

Adityanath provided a thorough explanation of the stampede incident at Maha Kumbh. He personally asked 13 Akharas’ sadhus to delay their bath for managing the situation. The Sangam area was evacuated by noon and rituals began by 2:30pm. This marks his initial public speech post the tragic event on January 29.
