AAP names Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain as leaders in charge of Punjab.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has restructured its Punjab leadership following a setback in the Delhi elections, appointing Manish Sisodia as the new head of party affairs in Punjab and Satyender Jain as co-in-charge. This shift occurred six weeks post Delhi’s election loss, with Sisodia reclaiming his role after five years.

Sisodia replaces Jarnail Singh, succeeding in Tilak Nagar. Jain takes over from Raghav Chadha in Rajya Sabha. AAP’s political affairs committee ratified the appointments at Kejriwal’s residence. Kejriwal, party’s national convener and ex-Delhi CM, oversaw the process. Sisodia and Jain, notable AAP figures, lost assembly seats in recent elections.

Sisodia previously headed party affairs in Punjab for AAP momentarily starting in December 2017 amidst losses but faced challenges internally, leading to a rebellion by Sukhpal Singh Khaira and party MLAs. Jarnail Singh succeeded him in February 2020.

Sisodia, upon reappointment, thanked Kejriwal and party leaders. He aims to hasten Punjab’s progress by enhancing employment, education, and fighting crime, drugs, and unemployment. The decision signifies a fresh drive for governance and transformation in the state.

AAP is restructuring amidst rising tensions in Punjab to strengthen its position for the 2027 elections. The new state in-charges, including Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora, face their first test with the Ludhiana West bypoll. Sisodia has been actively engaging in Punjab’s local governance by visiting government schools with Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
