Farhan Akhtar, director of Dil Chahta Hai, disclosed that Aamir Khan set two conditions before agreeing to star in the movie. Khan requested the role of Aakash and for Akhtar to translate English dialogues to Hindi. Akshaye Khanna was already chosen for the role of Aakash. Akhtar managed the situation by meeting Khan’s requirements.
Initially doubting Aamir’s agreement, Akhtar hesitated to approach him, perceiving the situation as frivolous and patronizing. Ultimately, with no alternative, Akhtar reluctantly met Aamir, anticipating rejection but pleasantly surprised when Aamir agreed to do the film, albeit with some conditions.
Expanding on Khan’s conditions, Akhtar recounted how Khan requested the dialogue draft in Hindi since it was initially in English. Khan questioned if the humor would resonate in Hindi. Akhtar noted Khan’s offer to switch roles from Sid to Aakash if he approved the Hindi draft.
Akhtar met with Khanna and informed him that Aamir preferred to play Aakash in the film. When Akhtar suggested that Khanna could portray Sid instead, Khanna expressed his willingness to take on any role as long as he was part of the movie. This iconic film also stars Saif Ali Khan.
