Guwahati | 6 July 2026: Kaziranga University today unveiled an ambitious roadmap to position itself as a strategic knowledge and innovation partner in the transformation of Assam and the North-East through globally connected education, cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship and industry collaboration.
Addressing the press conference, Shri Basant Khetan, Pro Chancellor of Kaziranga University, said the University is entering a new phase of institution building that aligns with the aspirations of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat 2047.
“The future of universities lies beyond awarding degrees. Universities must become engines of innovation, entrepreneurship, skill development and societal transformation. Our vision is to build Kaziranga University into a nationally respected institution that empowers youth, strengthens communities and contributes directly to the sustainable development of Assam and the North-East.”
Assam’s Moment Has Arrived:
The Pro Chancellor observed that Assam is experiencing one of the most significant periods of development in its history. Massive investments in infrastructure, healthcare, digital connectivity, logistics, advanced manufacturing and sustainable development are transforming the State into India’s gateway to the East.
He noted that the expanding strategic partnership between India and Japan, together with increasing global interest in the North-East, is expected to create unprecedented opportunities in sectors such as sustainable agriculture, silk and sericulture, food processing, river and water management, flood resilience, biodiversity, climate adaptation, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and future technologies. Kaziranga University believes that the greatest beneficiaries of this transformation should be the youth of Assam.
From Vision to Action:
The University announced several strategic initiatives that demonstrate its commitment to translating vision into measurable outcomes.
Among the major initiatives are:
₹1 Crore KU Startup Fund to nurture student-led innovation and entrepreneurship.
₹3 Crore Scholarship Programme to ensure that deserving students are not denied quality education due to financial constraints.

Connecting Assam with the World:
The University believes that the global higher education landscape is changing rapidly.
Internationally reputed universities are establishing collaborations and academic centers in India. While many have initially focused on metropolitan cities, they are increasingly seeking talented students, credible academic partners and meaningful engagement with India’s diverse regions.
Kaziranga University is proactively positioning itself as a bridge between the talented youth of the North-East and leading universities, industries and research institutions across the world through international collaborations, joint research, faculty exchanges, dual-degree pathways and globally benchmarked academic programs.
The University’s vision is simple: To make the North-East not merely a supplier of talented students, but a globally recognized center of knowledge, innovation and research.
Academic Leadership for a New Era:
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. L. Gaur, Vice Chancellor, who assumed office in February 2026, outlined the University’s academic roadmap. With over 41 years of multifaceted professional experience across seven Indian states, Dr. Gaur has served premier research institutions, agricultural universities and private universities in diverse leadership positions including Scientist, Professor, Head of Department, Dean, Founder Principal and Vice Chancellor. We are preparing students for careers that are still emerging by integrating knowledge with skills, research with innovation, and education with entrepreneurship. Our objective is to transform job seekers into job creators.” Dr. Gaur added that, during the past five months, he has witnessed Assam’s exceptional scientific potential, entrepreneurial energy and cultural richness.
“Every region possesses unique strengths waiting to be unlocked. Assam has all the ingredients to become one of India’s leading knowledge and innovation regions. Kaziranga University is committed to converting these strengths into globally competitive education, research, innovation and sustainable livelihoods.”
