On World Youth Skills Day, DIKSHa Celebrates Transformative Power of Skilling in Rural India

Guwahati, July 15, 2025: Dalmia Bharat Foundation (DBF), the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Dalmia Bharat Ltd., is transforming lives in rural India through its flagship skill development initiative, DIKSHa (Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing. At its three centres in Assam, located in Lanka, Jagiroad, and Umrangso, DIKSHa is empowering local youth by equipping them with industry-relevant skills, helping them access sustainable livelihoods, dignity, and self-reliance. One shining example is Dhrubaraj Dey, a 27-year-old from Lanka who turned his life around after enrolling in the Retail Sales Associate course at the DIKSHa Centre in Lanka. Coming from a family of daily wage earners, Dhrubaraj faced financial struggles but was determined to build a better future. After completing his training, he secured a job with Whirlpool India Pvt. Ltd., earning an annual package of over Rs.2 lakhs and is one their top performing sales executive.

Another outstanding story is of Chinmay Dewri, a young resident of Kholagaon in Morigaon district, Assam, who transformed his future after enrolling in the Solar PV Installer course at the DIKSHa Centre in Jagiroad. After completing his higher secondary education and an ITI certification, Chinmay aspired to build a career that would contribute to sustainable development in his community. With hands-on training in solar installation and safety procedures at DIKSHa, he secured a job with Rashi Enterprise, earning a monthly salary of ₹25000.

Chinmay and Dhrubaraj’s journeys stand as powerful testimonies of how targeted skill development can empower rural youth, open doors to emerging career opportunities, and transform lives. In Assam over 1647 youth have been trained in fields such as Retail, Customer Relationship Management & Electrical.

DIKSHa’s skill training programme stands out for its holistic approach, combining practical training, career counselling, and placement support. Courses are industry-aligned, certified by NSDC and sector skill councils, and strengthened through strategic partnerships with other organisations like NABARD, BOSCH, and Schneider Electric. Many graduates have also launched their own ventures, boosting incomes and confidence in underserved communities. In FY25 alone, 6925 youth were trained across 20 centres, with many securing jobs or starting businesses within three months. With over 50% women trainees, DIKSHa continues to advance gender equity through economic empowerment.

As the world marks World Youth Skills Day, Dalmia Bharat Foundation reaffirms its commitment to empowering India’s next generation through skill-building, strategic collaboration and inclusive development.
