A father and his mother were arrested for killing his two minor boys in Odisha’s Nayagarh district, where the victims, aged 14 and 9, were found hanging. Initial reports suggested suicide, but police discovered evidence of foul play. Prakash Mohanty allegedly murdered his sons with his mother, Souri Mohanty, due to their opposition to his remarriage plans.
Prakash allegedly disguised the scene as a suicide after an argument about his desire to remarry ended in him strangling his sons, according to Nayagarh SP Susree S. The boys’ maternal uncle, Laxman Nayak, filed a complaint suspecting foul play in their deaths. He claimed that Prakash killed the boys for opposing his intention to remarry following their mother’s passing two years ago.
The ongoing police investigation suggests that Prakash and Souri suffocated their sleeping sons. The bodies, with sarees around their necks, were found hanging from a ceiling beam. Prakash initially gave conflicting explanations during interrogation, leading to suspicion, but later confessed to the murders. He stated that he killed his sons due to his eldest son’s objection to his remarriage plans. Investigations continue.
