West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee stated that TMC will run solo in the 2026 assembly polls, rejecting alliances with Congress or other parties. Confident in securing a two-thirds majority for a fourth term, she emphasized that Congress lacks support in West Bengal, reiterating her choice to contest independently.
During a meeting with legislators, Banerjee warned against infighting in TMC, specifically cautioning members from Malda and West Burdwan districts. She emphasized that repeated mistakes regarding controversial statements would not be tolerated and referred to Madan Mitra’s public apology for suggesting key positions were given in exchange for money.
Banerjee shared intentions to revamp the party’s organization from state to booth levels. She requested legislators to submit three names for each position to senior leader Arup Biswas by February 25. During the meeting, she supported former food minister Jyotipriyo Mallick against his arrest in a ration scam, citing insufficient evidence.
