A US military-contracted plane crashed in a rice field in Maguindanao del Sur province, southern Philippines, killing all four aboard. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed the incident. The aircraft split into two upon impact and was contracted by the US military, according to US Embassy spokesperson Kanishka Gangopadhyay.
Ameer Jehad Tim Ambolodto, a safety officer from Maguindanao del Sur, said four bodies resembling foreign nationals were recovered from the wreckage near Ampatuan, a farming municipality on Mindanao island. Municipal rescue worker Rhea Martin confirmed the bodies were found close to the plane, which was split in half. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the deceased.
