Guwahati, Dec. 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest independently in upcoming Panchayat polls in Assam. They will not be collaborating with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) or other partners of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) during this period. However, in preparation for a more comprehensive plan for the 2026 election, “close ties” would be maintained at the grassroots level with allies as stated to the Press on Tuesday where Assam BJP President Shri Bhabesh Kalita clarified about the Party’s stance.
The BJP has opted to contest in 25 Zila Parishads (ZPCs) across the state, excluding the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region, which comprises the districts of Chirang, Udalguri, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Kokrajhar. Highlighting the key ZPCs where the BJP will contest, Kalita mentioned districts such as Cachar, Sribhumi, Jorhat, Hailakandi, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Golaghat, Majuli, and Guwahati Metro, among others. In this regard, the Committee have been formed and Shri Pallab Lochan Das is appointed as Convenor alongwith three co-convenors for the Panchayat Election Management Committee to look after the Election Campaign.
On the other hand, a manifesto committee will led by Ranjan Kumar Das. Minister Shri Ranjan Kumar Das will headed the manifesto committee of the BJP. As and when manifesto will ready for the election, it will be shared to all where we will highlight our objectives, mission, vision, and how we will serve for the people, as stated by Shri Kalita.
The Assam BJP chief also informed that the party has also finalised a list of leaders who will act as district in-charges and co-in-charges to ensure smooth execution of its campaign strategies.
