51st Karbi Youth Festival Concludes with Grand Cultural Celebrations and Fashion Show

Diphu, February 19, 2025: The 51st Karbi Youth Festival, held from February 15 to 19, 2025, at Taralangso, Diphu, successfully concluded, drawing thousands of visitors who witnessed and participated in the grand cultural celebrations.

The festival, recognized as India’s oldest ethnic festival, featured traditional dances, music, art exhibitions, sports competitions, and food festivals that showcased the vibrant heritage of the Karbi community.

A key highlight was the Fashion Show on February 18, organized by Matipung Boa-Kata Samabai Samity Ltd. and led by Sangpi Sabina Teronpi at Sing Mirjeng Stage. The show celebrated Karbi traditional attire, with intricate handwoven designs and indigenous patterns, capturing the essence of Karbi craftsmanship.

This year, only male models were featured to showcase Karbi indigenous dye made from plants, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and eco-friendly textile practices. The natural dyes, extracted from local herbs and plants, highlighted the Karbi people’s deep-rooted connection with nature and their efforts in preserving traditional weaving and dyeing techniques.
