125 Dead in Nepal Floods After Relentless Monsoon Rains

Devastating monsoon rains in Nepal have caused widespread flooding and landslides, claiming at least 125 lives across the country. The relentless downpour has resulted in the highest recorded rainfall in the capital, Kathmandu, since at least 1970, overwhelming rivers, triggering landslides, and submerging homes and farmlands.

The flooding, which has affected large parts of Nepal, particularly the hilly and mountainous regions, has displaced thousands of families and left hundreds more stranded. Rescue operations are underway, with Nepalese authorities, along with the military, working tirelessly to evacuate people from the hardest-hit areas. However, with roads cut off and infrastructure severely damaged, relief efforts have been challenging.

Many of the dead and missing were trapped under landslides or swept away by floodwaters. The disaster has also destroyed vital crops and livelihoods, raising concerns about food shortages in the coming months. Temporary shelters have been set up for displaced families, but the ongoing rains are hampering aid delivery.

Nepal’s government has urged people living in flood-prone areas to evacuate to safer ground, while also calling for international assistance to cope with the aftermath. The meteorological department has warned of continued heavy rainfall in the coming days, further raising the risk of more flooding and landslides.

With 125 dead and thousands displaced, Nepal is facing one of its worst flood disasters in decades. The relentless monsoon rains have caused widespread devastation, and with more rain expected, the country is bracing for further challenges in rescue and recovery efforts.
